(questions most commonly asked by chatters on the PrecipiceGames Livestream; updates occasionally, worth coming back to once in a while)

Contents

What normally goes on around here?

We play games. Much of the time, we play Minecraft, but it gets old sometimes, so we play other games, as well.

Is it live/when will it be live?

The first of these questions is a possible example of tardness and may result in an immediate ban, depending on how the moderators are feeling and whether you've been told this before or not -- Livestream has a "LIVE" indicator for when it's live, and we put up our own "Not live" indicator when it isn't.

The second question is even more in the gray area: there is no schedule for the stream. When someone feels like streaming, they just pick it up (usually with about 10-15 seconds of forewarning), so it's really not possible to answer it.

Do you have any guidelines for chatting in the Livestream?

Sure, you can find them here.

I got banned from the chat. Why? Can I get unbanned?

You were probably banned for breaking the rule. Since interpreting the rule is always subjective, you can always try to appeal a chat ban. The contact form is linked in the guidelines (and, obviously, right here). Naturally, you can get yourself into more trouble this way, as well.

Who's that "precipicegames" person in the chat?

That's our admin account. All the producers have access to it, so it could be any of the producers, but most often it tends to be used by Narc.

How do you talk to each other? Can I join you?

We use Mumble. If you want to come speak with us, the instructions are below. Unless we're specifically trying to bring you in, we generally won't help you with this; you have to figure it out yourself.

  1. Get a copy of Mumble.
  2. Go through the audio wizard and be sure to choose Push To Talk, not Voice Activated or Continuous.
  3. In the settings, add a new shortcut to Whisper/Shout, then click the Data column and set it to Shout to the Current channel (but not linked channels or subchannels).
  4. Point Mumble to mumble.precipicegames.com, on the default port (64738).
  5. Register your username on the server (Self->Register).
  6. Join the Livestream Hub channel.

How the Mumble rooms work:

  • Current Streamer is (usually) where the person streaming is.
  • Commentators is for people actively contributing to the stream, either participating in the game being played or just talking with the streamer about what they're doing. Only streamers and official commentators can enter here.
  • The Livestream Hub is for everyone else. You can hear the streamer and commentators from here, but can't speak to them (or speak on stream) unless you're an official commentator.
  • In any room you can speak only to the room itself by using your whisper key. This also makes your lip icon turn blue, rather than red.

And the Mumble ranks:

  • Once you register on the server, you will be able to speak in the Livestream Hub and make your own rooms in Miscellaneous Discussions.
  • Once we have a chance to get to know you, we may make you an official commentator. This means you can enter Commentators by yourself, and speak to the stream, streamer, and Commentators room even from the Livestream Hub.
  • Streamers can enter the Current Streamer room, move people into Commentators, and generally act as chat moderators.
  • A few streamers are also producers for the Livestream, and have additional powers. Notably, only producers can create new commentators and cameras. The ones you're most likely to see are FunnyMan3595, IcepickTrotsky, EzTarget_UK, DreadWolf7 and narc0tiq.

Can I play with you?

If we're looking for people to join us, we'll ask.

Would you like to play on my server?

No. We've got more than enough servers of our own available; we don't need yours.

Do you guys have an IRC channel?

Not yet. We'll probably have one later, though.

Why aren't you playing Minecraft?

See above. We don't want to become burned out on Minecraft so we vary what we do, as much as possible, to prevent that. We all like many different games and we like sharing our experiences with you, the audience. We're not your slaves, though -- if you want us to play something else, you can try to persuade us, but don't demand things, or we'll demand sandwiches. Delivered in person.

Do you guys have youtube channels?

Some of us do:

Do you use hacks/mods/INVEdit?

Not very often. We try not to INVEdit stuff, because it takes away from the feeling of accomplishment. We have been playing around with a few mods (like IndustryCraft) to try to make the Minecraft experience a little more fresh, but it's mostly vanilla otherwise. Server mods are a whole other story, of course.

What program do you use for mapping?

We endorse Minutor.

Why did you just trash that item/throw that thing into the incinerator?

Because it was obtained illegitimately -- either by crashes or bugs, or spawned (accidentally or not).

Where'd you get the green circle thing that pops up whenever you break a block?

It's a replacement for the block breaking animation part of the texture pack. I found it on reddit and it's since been incorporated into a few other texture packs (see below for one of them).

Where's that awesome texture pack Ez made?

The Official Coe's Quest Livestream Texture Pack can be downloaded from here.

Can you help me...?

Sure, but not for free. We also reserve the right to refuse service for any reason, which we will do if all you do is act like a tard (and you won't get a refund).
